I grew up in Philadelphia that is the 6th largest city in the U.S. I went to the magnet school that was for the smartest students in all of Philadelphia called Central High School.

It is the second oldest public high school in the U.S. It is the only high school that offers a Bachelor of Arts degree. Wikipedia says "Central High School holds the distinction of being the only high school in the United States that has the authority, granted by an Act of Assembly in 1849, to confer academic degrees upon its graduates."

Harvard was the first college. University of Pennsylvania became the first university when they created the first medical school. Your father told you to write about Ben Franklin. He founded UPenn. Also when Ben Franklin was experimenting with static electricity, no other scientists had any interest in such nonsense.Chuck Bluesteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01291807414895185920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6485729541580426717.post-55415122954955234612015-07-10T12:15:12.133-07:002015-07-10T12:15:12.133-07:00It's generally considered here that elementary...It's generally considered here that elementary school students are best taught by a single teacher because the teacher has a better picture of the total child if he or she spends the entire day with the child. a learning disability is more likely to be spotted, for example, if there is a large discrepancy between reading and mathematical skill. That would be discovered sooner by a single teacher than if the child were rotating through to different teachers. Also, the teacher who teaches all subjects can look at a child who has finished his reading assignment and say, "Matthew, yu haven't finished yesterday's math work yet. why don't you do that right now?"

There are also advantages to rotating, but the prevailing philosophy here is that in general, younger children do best in a single classroom.

The main advantage to rotating in lower grades is for the teachers, who have fewer subjects for which to prepare.
AlexisARhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09797016673203467911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6485729541580426717.post-42798330996125917372015-07-10T12:13:47.523-07:002015-07-10T12:13:47.523-07:00Historically speaking, I cannot say for absolute c...Historically speaking, I cannot say for absolute certainty that no elementary schools in California rotate to different classes; in fact chances are that some do. Whether they just do it in spite of the law because they know theyre at least a few years away from a compliance review, so it's unlikely that the state will be nosing around in the near future, or whether they've obtained some sort of waiver, I couldn't tell you. I do know that it is common for sixth graders to rotate between either two or three teachers in order to prepare the students for middle school. How it is done makes a difference in California in terms of legality. For one thing, each teacher teaches more than one subject to the classes that rotate through. The state is less likely to say the school is violating the single subject/multiple subject credential statute if each teacher teaches at least two subjects. Furthermore, language arts/English can be taught exclusively through grade 9 with a multiple subject. The reason for this is that course wrok leading to a multiple subject credential is heavily weighted with language arts-relate courses and exams.

Teachers may possess various types of credentials. The common credential, and in fact the only one strictly legal for a class in which children remain with the same teacher, is a Multiple Subject credential. Conversely, to teach a particular subject all day, technically a teacher needs a Single Subject credential in that particular field. Districts have gotten around this law by ensuring that the teachers teaching the single subjects have a sufficient number of units to qualify for a Supplementary Authorization credential in a specific area. There are limitations to what can be done with supplementary authorization credentials, though I don't know what those limitations are. Sometimes school districts can also have teachers apply for emergency credentials in specific fields. (I hold an emergency credential to teach mathematics. I was going to teach calculus for summer school this year, but i decided that dealing with high school students was not how I wanted to spend my summer. The reason I needed an emergency credential is that i did not student teach. i have sufficient math, physical science, biological science, Enhlish, or music units to qualify for credentials in those subjects, but because i have no plan to teach, i didn't do student teaching. i would need only to student teach in any one of those subjects to qualify for credentials in all of them. other than special education, in california a given student teaching experience suffices for subsequent credentials. you must student teach or intern in special education in order to receive a special ed. credential.

The rationale supporting the Single Subject vs. Multiple Subject approach is that a teacher who teaches all subjects needs to have a more well-rounded education, while a teacher who teaches just one subject need an education focused more specifically upon the subject (and closely related subjects) that he or she teaches. In theory in California, a multiple subject credential covers kindergarten ( and preschool in some cases) through twelfth grade. In most cases the multiple credential isn't used past sixth grade. many rural schools do use it for 7th and 8th grade, though. Also, it's often used when teachers teach adult school to those who do not have high school diplomas, in continuation or alternative education programs, and in extremely rural areas where one- or two-room schools are all that can be offered.

AlexisARhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09797016673203467911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6485729541580426717.post-12490002220235685242015-07-10T03:11:37.429-07:002015-07-10T03:11:37.429-07:00Here is a strange question for you about influenti...Here is a strange question for you about influential people. In America, if you look at all the movies ever made. there is one genre (type) of movie that has more 5 star movies than any other genre. But there is a single person responsible for all of these American movies, since without him, none of them would be made. Who is that person?

The answer is Adolf Hitler since he caused all of those World War 2 movies to be made. They would also have lots of stars in them. For example The Great Escape had in it Steve McQueen, James Garner, James Coburn, Charles (my name) Bronson, Donald Pleasance and David McCallum,Chuck Bluesteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01291807414895185920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6485729541580426717.post-10560474573422048202015-07-10T02:55:27.893-07:002015-07-10T02:55:27.893-07:00A woman talked to me before introducing me to her ...A woman talked to me before introducing me to her Arabic friend. She said that her friend's name is Matthew but do not call him Matt since that is a profane word in Arabic. There is a very famous comedian, Tim Allen, that had his own TV show. I read his autobiography.

It started out by him saying (paraphrasing) "I am a dick and my whole family are dicks. My sister was a dick and got married and she is no longer a dick." His given name is Timothy Allen Dick. He became a comedian to deal with people making fun of his last name. He said that at least his sister was not named Anita since then her name would be Anita Dick.

You said that you could not write your teacher's name. But in the picture caption, you wrote it. I loved this post a lot. But is elementary school different in California than in Philadelphia? It sounds like you had one teacher for the whole day. In Philadelphia, just like in college, high school and middle school, elementary school is taught by different teachers for different subjects.

For example in 5th grade I would get Mr. Musicant for an hour to teach us chemistry. He was good friends with my mother. Is it different in California or has it changed all over the country since I was in elementary school?Chuck Bluesteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01291807414895185920noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6485729541580426717.post-87942916356144557732015-07-09T05:26:17.201-07:002015-07-09T05:26:17.201-07:00the best thing for a teacher with an odd name is t...the best thing for a teacher with an odd name is to play along with it. I had a mrs. dicken in high school. she said on the first day of class, "I've already heard every joke you could possibly make about my name. If you really think you have something original, write it down and give it to me. If I haven't heard it before and if it's remotely funny, I'll let you read it to the class."AlexisARhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09797016673203467911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6485729541580426717.post-71447514725906132322015-07-09T05:17:39.485-07:002015-07-09T05:17:39.485-07:00When I was in fifth grade, I had a teacher named M...When I was in fifth grade, I had a teacher named Mr. Nuttycomb.
